Animal Hunt

Hannah got back from OC last night. This morning I woke up and did a most grandmotherly thing. I baked cookies. 1 batch of snickerdoodles for Gina and 1 batch of chocolate chunk for Mike and Hannah. She was all giggles today. We picked her up and went over to the Patuxant Refuge to look for animals. Didn't see a one. Grandpa did see a grasshopper, but we decided that it didn't count. We were looking for wild turkeys or deer. We went inside the Center and found lots of animals. She liked petting the deer, fox, rabbit, beaver, and polar bear skins. We went through the exhibits. Hannah got a kick out of pushing all the buttons and reading the information. We went to Bob Evans for dinner and then took an obligatory trip to Borders ( where the had a new Pokemon book, yeah), then home. School starts tomorrow in P.G. County, so I have to get ready for the kids. Hannah starts school on the 29th.

YUK, HEAT!

Hannah called this morning to tell us that she didn't want to go out. It was just too hot. Besides, she is spending most of next week in O.C. with Gina's aunt. She just wanted a day at home with Mommy and Daddy. We went up to Faire to pick up our passes and came right home. The temperature was around 100. ICK. We got a phone call from Gina around 5 to come and get Hannah. Their AC went out and it was getting very hot in the house. We left right away and picked up Hannah before 6. We took her to The Big Fish for dinner and then to Target. Anything to keep her cool. With her asthma, this heat is dangerous. I tried something new with her. Instead of our having to constantly say no to most of the toys she wants from Target, I told her that she could spend $10.00. She kept checking prices, and found a Pokemon game that she could afford. No whinning. The AC guy came on time (a miracle) and fixed the problem. Also no pictures today. We ran out of the house without the camera.

Sand, sand, sand

Hannah had a Camp field trip to Mayo Beach today. When we got there to pick her up, we took one look at her and said, "OK, we're going home first to change." The child had half the beach on her. She was covered in sand. We brushed her off and got her in the car and went home to change. Off we went to Borders where she got a dog book and a princess paper doll book. We went to Smokey Bones for dinner. I think all the salt air today had something to do with her eating all of her smashed potatoes, chicken fingers, tomatoes, and ice cream. She played with her Game Boy while Grandpa and I finished our dinner. Home to bed - tomorrow is her last day of Day Camp.

A Totally Wonderful Weekend

Mike, Gina and Hannah met us at one of the outlet malls in Lancaster on Saturday morning. We hit the shops! We got Hannah lots of clothes for the new school year. We also bought tons of stuff for ourselves and did lots of Christmas shopping. It as so nice to spend time with Mike and Gina and of course the best granddaughter in the universe. After lunch at Crackerbarrel, we went to an Amish farm. Hannah loved the animals and all the buggies. We had a terrific dinner at Miller's. That child can sure eat shrimp! On Sunday, we hit the stores again and filled up the back of my CRV with all our purchases. Mike, Gina and Hannah had to leave after lunch, but we did some driving around to find more farm animals for Hannah. Grandpa and I went back to the shops on Sunday afternoon and had a quiet dinner back at the motel. On Monday, we did even more shopping before heading home. A very successful weekend!

She's really growing up!

Yesterday, we picked Hannah up from Day Camp and headed over to visit Meemaw. Instead of the usual pulling out of all the toys, she wanted to play some games. She got out Boggle and proceeded to beat all of us. She really came up with some good words. We also played pick up sticks. Then we headed over to Hunan Treasure, her favorite Chinese place. We ordered her special Hannah tea. ( a teapot full of ginger ale and ice) She also got sesame chicken. She pointed out that she really knew how to behave at dinner. Her napkin was in her lap. She said that getting silly at dinner was for babies. She is growing up. I can see the day coming when she will want to go places with her friends instead of us. I am going to hold onto this time as long as I can. She did real well with the chopsticks. After dinner, we headed back to her house. Mom and Dad were still out so we played Boggle. That child beat me 4 times. I really tried. After playing Hungry Hippo with Grandpa, it was time for a story and bed. She read us a story and got into pj's. We took her up to bed. Two minutes later down she came. I let her "rest" on the couch until Dad came home. Tomorrow (Saturday) all of us will go to Lancaster for a short vacation. We'll get to spend the entire weekend with her (and Mike and Gina, too). It was a great afternoon and night!
